Localities are a way to take a population health approach
to plan health services to enable more seamless care, tailored to the health and well-being needs identified by whānau, the community, and local lwi.
The peaks of Hauraki lie shrouded in mist
We revere the land and lament the people
Moehau stands afar while Te Aroha stands within
Tīkapa is the sea and Hauraki the land
Enhanced health services in Hauraki means:
"Rongoā, natural healing, and the connection to others through this, be it a health service or community group. I believe people are wanting a balance between clinical and natural".
We will know we are succeeding in improving our Health services when:
"I believe we (are) being listened to and that knowledgable information was presented to us for options regarding our health".
Enhanced health services in Hauraki needs:
"To bring more services closer to where people live Dental services for people who cannot afford them More coordinated and organised services for our hapu māmā and our babies More residential care options for acute, respite and long term for some of our whanau who need supported accomodation affordable housing".
“Keep me well and keep me close to home”
“ I'm more than just a number”
“ I want to see more māori in the healthcare workforce”
“All new māma shouldn’t need referrals for services, accessing services needs to become a standard part of maternity care”
“I want to access healthcare when I need it”
“ I want to learn health literacy so I can make informed choices”
“Our health services in Colville are already working well, but it needs support to be strengthened and grow more, we need co-operative working relationships”

The whai (stingray) refers to the ika/ fish of Māui (the North Island) and the tara describes the barb or tail of the fish. The tara makes reference to Te Paeroa-o-Toitehuatahi, the ridgeline that symbolises the Coromandel Peninsula.
The whai is a kaitiaki (guardian) of Pare Hauraki, caring for our community and environment – as well as responding to challenges or risks when these arise.
Localities will be supported by a network of organisations and agencies working together to develop a plan for the community.
These organisations will work under the principles outlined in the
charter.
Te Tara o Te Whai Locality Boundaries Map
The first phase of the Hauraki Locality development covers the Thames - Coromandel and Hauraki District Council boundaries extending to Te Aroha which is covered by the Matamata-Piako District Council.
In the future, our activities will extend to include the wider Pare Hauraki boundaries.
